The University of Notre Dame has joined forces with the Military Spouse Advocacy Network (MSAN) and its Leadership Institute for Military Spouses (LIMS) to offer two innovative programs aimed at military spouses. These programs, focusing on ethical leadership and mental health wellness, are designed to empower military spouses with the skills necessary for professional growth and personal resilience. This partnership underscores a shared commitment to supporting military families through education and empowerment.
Developed and presented by faculty from the William J. Shaw Center for Children and Families, the Veldman Family Psychology Clinic, and the Notre Dame Deloitte Center for Ethical Leadership, the courses are a testament to the university's dedication to leveraging its academic resources for the benefit of military communities. The collaboration also involves Notre Dame Learning's Office of Digital Learning to ensure the online content is effective and accessible.
The Leadership in Ethics program aims to equip military spouses with essential skills such as conflict management, ethical decision-making, and voicing values at work. Meanwhile, the mental health course series focuses on dispelling myths around mental health, identifying risks prevalent in military communities, and fostering emotional resilience. These programs are exclusively available to alumni of the LIMS flagship Leadership Development Program, further enriching their leadership journey.
This initiative is a multidisciplinary effort involving faculty and staff from across the University of Notre Dame, including the Office of Military & Veterans Affairs and the College of Arts and Letters, among others. It represents a significant step forward in the university's ongoing support for military personnel and their families, offering them tools to thrive both personally and professionally.
