The Sri Lanka American Association of Southern California honored L. Ron Hubbard during its Independence Day celebration at the Church of Scientology of the Valley. Following a cultural program, the board and members presented a special recognition honoring Hubbard. The evening celebrated Sri Lankan culture as a warm, inclusive community extending friendship and support to all. For nine years, the Association has partnered with the Church of Scientology of the Valley, holding 25 cultural events for the Sri Lankan community. Founded over 50 years ago, the Association aims to foster fellowship and unity among Sri Lankans in Southern California and preserve their cultural heritage.
Through this partnership, Association members learned about Hubbard's life and legacy, including his work in education and literacy, drug rehabilitation, and criminal reform. His developments brought literacy to millions in the United States and abroad, freed hundreds of thousands from substance abuse, and restored trust in communities globally. In his 1965 article My Philosophy, Hubbard stated, "So my own philosophy is that one should share what wisdom he has, one should help others to help themselves and one should keep going despite heavy weather, for there is always a calm ahead." The evening concluded with the presentation of the recognition by the Association's president and board members.
Smithsonian Magazine featured Hubbard in its 2015 Collector's Edition as one of the 100 most significant Americans of all time and among the 11 most influential religious figures in American history. Described as living 20 lifetimes in one, he was a best-selling author holding the Guinness World Record for most published works by one author. His discoveries on the human mind and spirit led to founding Scientology, the world's youngest major religion with its Founder's voice intact through recorded public lectures. L. Ron Hubbard: In His Own Voice is a Scientology Network original series of autobiographical vignettes available on DIRECTV Channel 320, DIRECTV STREAM, AT&T U-Verse, and streaming platforms. Since launching in March 2018 with an introduction by David Miscavige, the Scientology Network has been viewed in over 240 countries and territories in 17 languages.
