Hyundai Motor Group Leads Industry with 12 IIHS Safety Awards for 2025 Models

Hyundai Motor Group announced that twelve Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis models received honors in the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's 2025 TOP SAFETY PICK and TOP SAFETY PICK+ awards. The group's total represents more than any other automaker in the IIHS annual evaluation, comprising 25 percent of total awards granted so far in 2025. Brian Latouf, President and Global Chief Safety and Quality Officer at Hyundai Motor Group, explained that outstanding safety performance is fundamental to the company and this achievement underscores their unwavering commitment to customers and relentless engineering to deliver the highest level of safety for occupants and road users.

Among the group's brands, Hyundai Motor and Genesis each earned five awards while Kia received two, highlighting the exceptional safety standards built into Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis vehicles as part of the group's overall mission to deliver uncompromising levels of safety and quality to customers. Hyundai Motor's five TSP+ winners were the IONIQ 5, KONA SUV, TUCSON SUV, SANTA FE SUV manufactured after November 2024, and IONIQ 6. Genesis earned four TSP+ awards for the GV60 SUV, electric GV70 SUV, GV70 SUV manufactured after April 2024, and GV80 SUV, while the luxury Genesis G90 sedan was recognized with a TSP award. Kia's two TSP+ award winners were the EV9 SUV and Telluride SUV. All vehicles were 2025 models unless otherwise specified.

For 2025, the IIHS updated its TSP and TSP+ award criteria, placing even more emphasis on second-row occupant protection with tests requiring advanced seat belt technology and other safety innovations to achieve high scores. The new testing method updates and standards raised the already high bar for consideration, resulting in only 48 models qualifying for this year's awards compared to 71 at this time last year. With evaluation criteria including small and moderate overlap front tests, side impact and collision prevention, pedestrian safety measures, and new stricter rear passenger safety standards, the excellent performance of Hyundai, Genesis, and Kia highlights the safety dedication instilled throughout Hyundai Motor Group. These results affirm the company's commitment to safety leadership for 2025 and beyond according to company officials.
