McEwen Mining Announces COO Retirement and Leadership Promotions to Drive 2030 Production Goals

McEwen Mining Inc. (NYSE: MUX) (TSX: MUX) has announced the planned retirement of Chief Operating Officer William Shaver, who has spent over 55 years in the mining industry, including the last four years with the company. Shaver will remain on the board of McEwen Copper, which is 46.3% owned by McEwen. This transition comes as the company accelerates its focus on production, mine construction, and permitting to meet its ambitious 2030 goal of producing 250,000-300,000 gold equivalent ounces annually.

In conjunction with Shaver's retirement, McEwen has promoted three key executives: Channa Kumarage to vice president of operations, Kevin Bromfield to vice president of development projects, and Zahir Jina to vice president of permitting, government relations, and sustainability. These appointments are strategically aligned with the company's operational priorities, as outlined in the press release.

The leadership changes underscore McEwen's commitment to advancing its portfolio of gold, silver, and copper assets across the Americas. The company's gold and silver mines are located in prolific mining regions, including the Cortez Trend in Nevada, the Timmins district in Ontario, Flin Flon in Manitoba, and the Deseado Massif in Argentina. Additionally, McEwen is reactivating its El Gallo Mine in Mexico, which will contribute to the company's near-term production growth.

A significant part of McEwen's long-term strategy is its 46.3% interest in McEwen Copper, which owns the advanced-stage Los Azules copper project in San Juan province, Argentina. According to the latest financing, McEwen's ownership interest is valued at US$456 million (US$7.67 per share). The Los Azules project is designed to be one of the world's first regenerative copper mines and aims to be carbon neutral by 2038. The feasibility study results were announced in the press release dated October 7, 2025.

In addition to its core mining assets, McEwen has recently acquired a 27.3% stake in Paragon Advanced Labs Inc., a newly listed company deploying PhotonAssay units globally. This technology is poised to become the new industry standard for assaying precious and base metals, and Paragon aims to be a leading service provider in this space.

Chairman and Chief Owner Rob McEwen has invested over US$250 million personally and takes a salary of $1 per year, aligning his interests with shareholders. His objective is to build MUX's profitability, share value, and ultimately implement a dividend policy, as he did while building Goldcorp Inc. This leadership restructuring is a clear signal that McEwen is positioning itself to execute on its growth strategy, with a focus on operational efficiency and project development.
