Roth Canada Expands Debt Capital Markets with New Managing Director

Roth Canada, the Canadian affiliate of ROTH Capital Partners LLC, announced that Mark Hoogeveen has joined the firm as managing director, head of debt capital markets. In this role, Hoogeveen will lead the development of the firm’s debt capital markets offering from its Toronto offices and work closely with ROTH’s U.S.-based investment banking team to provide debt solutions to clients. The appointment signals a significant expansion of Roth Canada’s financing capabilities beyond its existing focus on equity offerings for Canadian companies.

Hoogeveen brings roughly 30 years of Canadian capital markets experience across equity and debt. He most recently served as managing director and co-head of debt capital markets at ATB Cormark Capital Markets after joining Cormark Securities in early 2025 to launch its debt capital markets practice. His deep expertise and established relationships in the Canadian market are expected to be instrumental in building out Roth Canada’s debt platform.

The move comes as Canadian emerging growth companies increasingly seek diversified financing options. While equity financing has long been a staple for growth-stage firms, debt capital can offer advantages such as retained ownership, potential tax benefits, and flexibility in capital structure. By adding a dedicated debt capital markets capability, Roth Canada aims to provide clients with a more comprehensive suite of financing solutions, from equity to debt, under one roof.

Roth Canada, Inc., is a Canadian CIRO-regulated Dealer Member, focused on serving emerging growth Canadian companies and their investors. Headquartered in Toronto, the firm also maintains offices in Vancouver and Calgary. The addition of Hoogeveen and the formal launch of a debt capital markets practice aligns with the firm’s strategy to deepen its presence in the Canadian market and offer clients access to a broader range of financial products.

For ROTH Capital Partners, the expansion in Canada reflects a broader trend among U.S. investment banks seeking to capture opportunities in the Canadian mid-market. By leveraging its U.S.-based investment banking team, Roth Canada can facilitate cross-border debt solutions, potentially connecting Canadian issuers with U.S. institutional investors. This integrated approach could give Roth Canada a competitive edge in serving companies that require both domestic and international financing.
